Northern Lights: Footage from across UK and Ireland

28 February 2014 Last updated at 18:14 GMT

Footage has emerged revealing a rare display of the Aurora Borealis - better known as the Northern Lights - over the UK and Ireland on Thursday night.

The lights were clearly visible from the north of Scotland to as far south as Jersey.

The Northern Lights appear as shimmering waves of light when atoms in the Earth's high-altitude atmosphere collide with charged particles from the sun.
