David Miranda Heathrow Airport detention lawful

19 February 2014 Last updated at 20:12 GMT

The High Court has rejected a claim by David Miranda, the partner of a former Guardian journalist, that he was unlawfully detained when he was held for nine hours at Heathrow Airport.

Mr Miranda lives with reporter Glenn Greenwald, who has written articles about state surveillance based on leaked documents.

Judges said his detention was a "proportionate measure in the circumstances" and in the interests of national security.

June Kelly reports.
