Roache 'shocked by rape arrest'

22 January 2014 Last updated at 13:48 GMT

The jury in the trial of the Coronation Street star William Roache has heard how he told police that rape was against his nature and he was a very peaceful person.

The actor said he was "absolutely surprised" and "amazed" when the police first arrested him and he questioned whether the allegations had been made for "a moment of fame".

Mr Roache denies two rapes and five indecent assaults between 1965 and 1971.

Judith Moritz reports.
