20 December 2013 Last updated at 16:56 GMT

Amateur scientists have attempted to send Father Christmas into space - by attaching a model of him to a high-altitude weather balloon, along with a camera and a GPS system in order to track them.

Scientists Mark Ireland and Cassie Phelps said they launched the balloons in order to find out just how Santa makes it around the globe on Christmas Eve.

Kate Silverton reports.
