'Sometimes you don't want to burden your family'

25 November 2013 Last updated at 07:02 GMT

A free 24-hour dedicated helpline for older people across the UK has been launched aiming to combat loneliness in the over-65s.

The Silver Line provides friendship, information and advice through calls to trained volunteers.

Ella Britton started calling the Silver Line, which is based in Wesham, Lancashire, after she was involved in a car crash.

She told the BBC "I've got family, they are good, but you don't tell your family 'I've had enough, I don't want to wake up tomorrow - it's not kind to them'".
