The former chauffeur and flatmate of disgraced DJ Jimmy Savile has appeared in court accused of sexually abusing girls over several decades.

Ray Teret, 72, of Altrincham, Greater Manchester, faces 32 charges including counts of rape, attempted rape and indecent assault and gross indecency.

Mr Teret is expected to plead not guilty, Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court was told.

The allegations against him are not linked to the inquiry into Savile.

Following a 30-minute preliminary hearing on Friday, Mr Teret was granted bail until his next scheduled court appearance on 17 April 2014.

Police said the offences allegedly took place between 1962 and 1996, primarily in the Greater Manchester area.

The alleged victims included 14 young girls and one 17-year-old.

Mr Teret also faces one count of possession of extreme pornography, one count of possession of prohibited images and one count of possession of an indecent image of a child.
