Girl, 4, dies in hospital after dog attack

6 November 2013 Last updated at 14:19 GMT

The family of a four-year-old girl from Leicestershire who was mauled to death by her pet dog have described her as their "shining star".

Neighbours have been describing how Lexi Branson's mother fought to save her daughter after she was attacked by the dog "for no apparent reason".

The family had got the animal from a rescue centre two months ago and had been assured it was safe around children.

Sian Lloyd reports.
