Ex-BBC driver David Smith fails to appear in court

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a former BBC driver accused of child sexual offences, after he failed to appear at court.

David Smith, from Lewisham, south-east London, is due to stand trial for allegedly abusing a 12-year-old boy in 1984.

Judge Alistair McCreath issued the warrant for the arrest of the 66-year-old at Southwark Crown Court.

The trial is expected to start on Tuesday.

Mr Smith has been charged with two counts of indecent assault, two of indecency and one of a serious sexual offence.
