Monitor footballers' fitness levels, says Scottish FA
The International Football Association Board will decide later whether it should trial the idea of players wearing heart rate monitors.
The communication of any technical information from footballers to staff is currently banned during matches, but it is hoped the microchips could save lives.
The measure is being considered after Bolton's Fabrice Muamba suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch last year.
