Frostbite forces Fiennes to leave Antarctic trek during white-out

Ian Prickett, one of Sir Ranulph Fienne's team members, explains what conditions have been like for the last week in the Antarctic.

Frostbite forced Sir Ranulph to abandon his attempt to walk across the continent in winter, as part of a trek dubbed the Coldest Journey.

He was injured after an accident while skiing during a whiteout. Following a fall, he was forced to use his bare hands to fix a ski binding in temperatures around -30C.

His five team-mates will still embark on the 2,000-mile (3,219km) trek.
