Chetham's school head 'shocked' after music tutor conviction
Claire Moreland, Head of Chetham's School of Music, has said she is "shocked to the core" after a leading choir director who worked at the school was convicted of sex abuse charges.
Michael Brewer, 68, of Selly Oak, Birmingham, carried out the offences at Chetham's School of Music and his Manchester home between 1978 and 1982.
The jury at Manchester Crown Court found him not guilty of raping the same victim, who died during the trial and is thought to have killed herself.
Ms Moreland said the current school staff express their "sorrow and sympathy we feel for the family of our former student".
