Mother says police thought autistic teenager was drunk

The mother of an autistic teenager who was mistakenly arrested for being drunk is calling on the police to be better trained.

Christine Evans, 49, was with her sober daughter Melissa Jones, 17, when she was arrested, then placed in a cell for ten hours and fined £80.

Ms Jones, from Edge Hill in Liverpool, was made to appear in court and waited eight months for her case to go to trial but the Crown Prosecution Service dropped the case.

Her mother told BBC Radio 5 live Drive that police should have breathalysed her daughter on the spot.
