    Martha in Godalming, Surrey

emails: Have been driving on the A3 southbound this morning going from Godalming to Petersfield and the A3 was very tough to drive on. Everyone skidding. Felt unsafe. I was hoping the A3 will be ok but it was snow covered and slippery. Drove back northbound recently, same story. Saw a couple of cars broken down both ways.

It was hard to slow down in these conditions without skidding; it seems a lot more distance is needed to slow down or to come to a full stop. A lot of drivers don't seem to keep the safe following distance between them and the car in front.

The average speed of traffic was 35 miles/hr and still it was difficult to have control over the car.

Scary conditions, my advice would be only drive if you absolutely have to and if you don't have experience in driving in the snow, don't drive today.

All the motorways around Birmingham are, in Bobbie's words, "solid". The only good news she proffers is that the long queue southbound on the M42 around junction 3 is now mostly cleared.
