London helicopter crash: Police confirm pilot among dead

The pilot of a helicopter which crashed into a crane in central London was one of two people killed in the incident, police have confirmed.

Commander Neil Basu of the Metropolitan Police said the helicopter was on a commercial flight, which was scheduled to fly from Redhill to Elstree, but which was diverted.

Pauline Cranmer, operations manager for the London Ambulance Service, said that the second fatality was not a passenger.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner for the London Fire Brigade Peter Cowup added that crews were assessing the damage to the crane, to ensure it was safe, before cordons were lifted.
