British troops in Afghanistan celebrate with turkey lunch

Help

Every UK serviceman and woman based in Afghanistan is having a traditional Christmas lunch, with many also taking part in pantomimes, carol services and sporting competitions.

Turkeys, potatoes and mince pies were among the festive food items flown in for the roughly 9,000 British troops deployed in Afghanistan.

Military chefs have travelled to forward operating bases to make sure everyone gets a freshly cooked meal.
