Census 2011: Is Norwich the most Godless city?

The number of people in England and Wales with no religious affiliation has jumped 10 percentage points in a decade, to 25% (14.1 million) in 2011, according to census figures.

The Christian population was down 13 percentage points at 59% (33.2 million), from 72% (37.3 million) in 2001.

Meanwhile, Norwich was the place with the highest proportion of people reporting "no religion".

The BBC spoke to the Venerable Jan McFarlane, Archdeacon of Norwich, who said she was very surprised by the figures and that there was "a church on every corner" in the city.
