Cold War missile sites given listed status
The remains of two concrete Cold War nuclear missile sites have been given listed status by English Heritage, 50 years on from the Cuban missile crisis.
The crisis began when a US spy plane spotted a Soviet military base in northern Cuba - equipped with offensive, nuclear weapons capable of reaching Washington and beyond.
A stand off between Washington and Moscow followed which brought the world to the brink of nuclear war.
Jeremy Cooke reports.
