Jimmy Savile scandal: BBC DG Entwistle quizzed on response

The BBC's response to the scandal surrounding Sir Jimmy Savile has been decided by the needs of the police investigating the allegations, George Entwistle has said.

The director-general was responding to suggestions that the BBC had been reluctant to investigate the scandal when the claims were first made.

He told reporters that the "criminal nature of the vast majority" of the allegations meant he had been careful to work with the police from early on "to ensure that nothing... could get in the way of criminal investigations."
