Woman describes how she spent £2,500 on competition calls

The regulator for premium-rate phone lines has imposed a record fine on a company that runs competitions in national newspapers.

Churchcastle Limited was fined £800,000 after some entrants discovered they had run up hundreds of pounds in phone bills.

Seventy-year-old Jane Vallance from Edinburgh spent more than £2,500 entering Churchcastle's competitions.

She told Shari Vahl from Radio 4's You & Yours she had taken on a job washing dishes to try to make up some of the money.
