The Duchess of Cambridge was welcomed by crowds on solo visit to north-east
Crowds gathered to welcome the Duchess of Cambridge as she arrived in the north-east of England to carry out a string of solo engagements.
The duchess was without Prince William, who was attending the funeral of his former nanny.
About 500 people, many waving flags, cheered as she arrived in Newcastle to meet Olympic volunteers.
