Former Radio 1 boss 'staggered' by Sir Jimmy claims
The former controller of Radio 1 told 5 liveBreakfast he was 'staggered' by the claims about Sir Jimmy Savile.
Johnny Beerling was at the station from its beginning in 1967 and worked alongside him for 19 years.
The BBC said it would help the police investigate allegations of sexual abuse made against the late Sir Jimmy in an ITV documentary broadcast on Wednesday.
