David Cameron faced questions on British history and culture during an appearance on the David Letterman show.
The PM got many questions right but was unable to say what Magna Carta meant in English or who wrote the words and music of Rule, Britannia!
The BBC's Tim Muffett took to the streets of London to find out if members of the public could do any better.
Breakfast also met historian Tessa Dunlop and David Perkins, a history department head who has taken a radical approach to teaching the basics.
