TUC's Brendan Barber urges 'alternative to austerity'
TUC leader Brendan Barber has said that "an alternative to austerity" is needed to "build an economy that delivers decent jobs, wages and prospects".
His comments came as the TUC's annual conference began in Brighton - and shortly before two of the UK's biggest trade unions revealed they are planning for co-ordinated strikes unless the government suspends its public sector pay freeze.
