Monastery attracts the 'gap year' market

Help

A Benedictine monastery on the Isle of Wight is offering young men a taste of the monastic life in place of work experience or a gap year.

Instead of a hedonistic tour of distant countries, or an early taste of office life, interns at Quarr Abbey will join monks in their disciplined routine of work, worship and contemplation.

One of the first interns, 26-year-old Michael Edwards from Liverpool talks about his experience.
