Paralympics mayor on how she helped at first games

The daughter of the man who inspired the Paralympic Games has been talking about how the event began.

Speaking to The World At One's Shaun Ley, Eva Loeffler described how the Paralympics developed from an idea by her father Ludwig Guttman, a neurosurgeon, who used sport as a tool in the rehabilitation of his patients.

Ms Loeffler worked as a volunteer at the forerunner of the modern-day Paralympic Games at Stoke Mandeville Hospital in 1948, helping her father to organise a sporting event to run at the same time as the London Olympic Games.

The former director of the British Paralympic Association has been appointed mayor of the Paralympic Village for London 2012.
