Lord Ryder: Osborne 'is not a strategist'
Dissatisfaction on the Conservative backbenches with George Osborne's performance broke into the open this morning as Nadine Dorries said in a tweet: "For the sake of country and Conservative party, most trusted politician in UK, William Hague, needs to become Chancellor."
Lord Ryder, the former Conservative chief whip under John Major, told the World At One that he sees George Osborne as a "tactician" rather than a strategist.
He told Martha Kearney that Mr Osborne should give up his role his role as a political strategist within the party and focus on being a chancellor.
"It's important that the Chancellor steps away from the immediate picture and builds a bigger one," he said.
