Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt defends Olympic Games security

The Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt has defended security for the Olympic Games, after contractor G4S admitted it would fall short.

A further 3,500 troops are now being deployed to make up the shortfall.

Mr Hunt said it was no time for a "witch hunt" but "contingency plans" were in place if G4S further failed to deliver.

Earlier, the home secretary also denied allegations the government knew before Wednesday there would not be enough guards.

Speaking to the BBC's Newsnight programme, Mr Hunt said "back-up" plans were in place and the situation would only be "scary" if that was not the case.
