A skull and a skeleton, a Devil promoted and a Victorian sporting controversy involving the Duke of Westminster. No these aren't plot elements from a bad thriller but things thrown-up by recent scientific research into the genetic history of thoroughbred race horses.

The World At One's Chris Vallance has been finding out what light science can shed on an equine cold case, a discovery that has implications for the bloodlines of many of today's top horses.
