MP 'sceptical' at Gove exam plan
The Conservative MP who chairs the Education Select Committee has said he is "sceptical" about proposals from the Education Secretary, Michael Gove, to change the system of secondary school qualifications in England.
Graham Stuart told The World At One that the plan had "come out of the blue".
And he asked: "How will it help close the gap between rich and poor? How will it increase social mobility?"
Mr Gove has told the Commons he is considering scrapping GCSEs in subjects such as Maths and English, and replacing them with tougher exams, similar to O-levels, and other qualifications for less-able pupils.
