What's the future for European Court of Human Rights

The Government is insisting that no mistakes were made in efforts to deport the radical cleric Abu Qatada.

In a letter to the European Court of Human Rights, Home Office lawyers have urged the court to reject a last minute appeal by his legal team, because it was submitted too late.

But there is confusion over the appeal deadline and Labour has accused the government of mishandling the case.

It comes as European Justice Ministers gather in Brighton to discuss reforms to the court - including whether it should hear fewer appeals.
