Fears VAT 'may halt church repairs'

A plan to charge VAT on church renovations could lead to some projects being scrapped, the Church of England has warned.

From October this year the Treasury will charge VAT at 20% on approved alterations to listed buildings - work which is currently exempt from the tax.

However, the Treasury says funding will be available to ensure renovations are not cancelled.
