Five Metropolitan Police officers have been injured in a dog attack in east London.

Officers from Newham had gone to an address in Albert Square, Stratford, to make an arrest when the incident happened, at about 09:00 GMT.

The animal, described as a pitbull-type dog, was shot dead. A man in his 20s has been arrested.

Local resident Dennis Clarke said that the dog sunk his teeth into one officer's leg and then continued to attack him until other members of the police team got involved.
