Jeremy Paxman finds missionary legacy 'alive and well'
At Nkolokoti primary school in Malawi, demand for lessons is so great that many of its 8,000 pupils walk for hours to attend and the children are taught in a shift pattern.
The school was set up by Church of Scotland missionaries in 1935, when Malawi was part of the British Empire and known as Nyasaland.
These days the school is run by locals and funded by the Malawi government providing both education and sustinence, as Jeremy discovered when he lent a hand making breakfast.
Empire: A Taste for Power is on Monday 27 February at 21.00 GMT on BBC One, or catch up on iPlayer (UK only) using the link.
