Police in Manchester say more than 30,000 people are taking part in a demonstration protesting against government cuts.

The TUC has organised the March for the Alternative to coincide with the start of the Conservative Party conference in the city.

The NUT's Christine Blower, who is taking part in the march, told the BBC's Ed Thomas, "you can't cut your way out of a recession".
