Prisoner turns life around during three-year sentence

Help

Over the next year, Radio 5 live's Victoria Derbyshire will be following a young man called Tom.

He is 21 and due to be released from prison next month, when he will have served three years of a six year sentence for grievous bodily harm.

He stabbed someone in an argument in his home and says he was protecting his mother at the time.

It was the first time he had ever been in trouble with the police.

The Ministry of Justice will not allow the full details of the crime to be revealed in order to protect Tom's victim.

They also want the BBC to identify Tom only by his first name.

Reporter Jonathan Savage met Tom at Isis Prison in South East London and asked him how he reacted when he realised he was facing years behind bars.
