Government spending cuts blamed for council job losses


Almost one in five council workers in Manchester will lose their jobs in the next year.

Manchester City Council says a total of two thousand jobs will go, that is 17% of its workforce.

The Labour-run authority said it needed to make the cuts after changes to local authority grants left a big hole in its finances.
