Scientists hold rally over spending cuts in London

9 October 2010 Last updated at 17:03 BST

Hundreds of scientists have been holding a rally outside the Treasury to protest against cuts in their funding.

They say reductions to science budgets will hold back innovation and ultimately harm the economy.

More than 20,000 people are said to have signed the "Science is Vital" petition.

The BBC's Alex Bushill reports from the demonstration in central London.
