The idea of creating a new tax allowance for married couples was included in the Conservative Election Manifesto, but it was limited to basic-rate tax payers.

David Cameron is now indicating it might cushion the impact of losing child benefit.

But to what extent would it make up for the money lost and how much would it cost?
