Camerons' baby Florence makes Downing St debut

Florence Cameron has made her public debut on the steps of Downing Street with her parents, Prime Minister David Cameron and his wife Samantha.

Florence was born earlier than expected in the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro on 24 August during a family holiday.

Mrs Cameron held her daughter, who was wrapped in a shawl and opened her eyes only briefly, for the assembled media as her husband kissed the baby.

Mr Cameron said they had been "touched" by all the cards, gifts and flowers.

"Samantha and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their kindness and generosity since the birth of baby Florence," he said.

"We have been really, really touched by all the people who have offered their warm congratulations."

Florence's shawl was crocheted by charity fundraiser Jane Fraser-Cross from Sutton Coldfield.

The baby was born weighing 6lbs 1oz following a Caesarean delivery.

Her parents chose one of Florence's middle names - Endellion - after the Cornish village of St Endellion.

The Camerons' first child, Ivan, who was born profoundly disabled and needed round the clock care, died in February 2009.

The couple has two other children, Nancy and Arthur, who are six and four years old respectively.
