Singapore's economy grew at its slowest rate since 2009, according to official figures out today.

The 2016 GDP data was not as bad as some had feared, with annual growth of 1.8% compared with the 0.9% some had forecast.

But there are already warnings 2017 could be even tougher for Asia's export-led economies, especially if rising protectionism in the West - notably the US - hits global trade.

And with further US interest rate rises also expected, that will put pressure on the local economy.
