Google buys high-altitude drone firm Titan Aerospace

Internet giant Google has bought drone firm Titan Aerospace for an undisclosed sum.

It hopes to use the high-altitude solar powered drones to beam internet access to remote areas and collect aerial images.

Google is not the first internet firm to express an interest in such technology - Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos previously announced plans for a drone delivery service.

Technology analyst Rob Enderle told BBC Radio 5 live's Up All Night: "It's a way to cover parts of the world that aren't currently covered by the web."
