A team at the University of Malaga in Spain has taught a computer to compose original musical scores.

After being given basic information such as which instruments to include and the desired duration, the Iamus computer is allowed to create the composition.

The university's professor of artificial life, Francisco Vico demonstrated to BBC News how the computer works.
