Fun with coding
Two of these three have been recurited to star in the video
How do you promote the idea that learning computer coding is fun? Well, an organisation called Founders Forum has come up with a clever and amusing method. This annual gathering of wealthy technology entrepreneurs has made a video, shot, and edited in a day.
You can watch the Code Club clip - posted on YouTube - here.
They have managed to assemble a stellar cast list - including the creator of the World Wide Web, the founders of YouTube and Lastminute, and a member of the Royal Family - and persuade them to be mildly teased by a group of school children. I particularly liked their disappointment at not getting a more glamorous Royal to audition for their start-up.
There is already plenty of momentum behind the idea that we should give children the opportunity to get a grasp of coding at school. So I'm not sure this video will make much difference - but it is always good to see prominent people making fools of themselves in a good cause.

@penguin337: 4 TV channels !??
You were lucky. We lived for three months in a paper bag in a septic tank. We used to have to get up at six in the morning, clean the paper bag, eat a crust of stale bread, go to work down t' mill, fourteen hours a day, week-in week-out, for sixpence a week, and when we got home our Dad would thrash us to sleep wi' his belt.

Also, although computing may not technically be a science (yet to be decided) it should still make use of its many inspirational pioneers. Where physics has its Einstein computing has its Turing. Having examples of individuals that broke new scientific ground, or showed us a different way to think about a problem was a major factor in my own curiosity for science and technology.

The video was thoroughly charming. It was good to see so many high profile and relevant backers.
Presenting any academic subject in a more exciting and engaging manner makes learning easier, and I might argue more effective. The great thing about ITC is that it employs a vast range of skills and techniques; consequently, there are many access points into the industry.

Nowadays most kids have too much choice and far too many distractions to focus on one subject unless they become seriously hooked
A million utubes to watch
A thousand TV channels to watch
Mobile phones
Mass gaming, surfing and shopping on the internet
When home computers took off in the 1980s we had 4 TV channels no mobile phones and no internet
Modern kids hardly even bother kick a ball about
