In some parts of the world, the mobile phone is beginning to replace cash and credit cards as a way of paying.
With the launch in the UK of new services from banks and mobile networks, using your phone to make payments is getting easier.
BBC technology correspondent Rory Cellan-Jones loaded his mobile phone up with a number of payment apps and tried to live without cash for a few days.
