EU data protection law proposals include large fine

The European Commission has put forward suggestions for changes to EU data laws, affecting the privacy of European citizens.

The new rules include users' "right to be forgotten" and an obligation on organisations to report data breaches "as soon as possible".

The Justice Commissioner, Viviane Reding, set out the proposed rules at a news conference.
