Midata programme launched to give public access to their data
The government has joined forces with 26 businesses and consumer groups to launch a scheme which aims to give people unprecedented access to their customer data in a portable, electronic format.
The BBC's Rory Cellan-Jones spoke to the government's information adviser, Prof Nigel Shadbolt, who devised the scheme.
He believes the programme will allow consumers to make better decisions about the products and services they buy.
