Angela Belcher: Turning viruses into factories

For Professor Angela Belcher, the study of evolution is more than exploring biology.

The W.M. Keck Professor of Energy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is using a process of high-speed evolution to turn tiny organisms and viruses into factories, to produce solar cells, plastics and more efficient batteries.

The resulting new materials just might address some of our most vexing problems.
