Keeping zoo animals cool with ice lollies

29 July 2014 Last updated at 17:13 BST

During the hot summer weather zookeepers are having to come up with ways to keep animals comfortable in the heat.

At Twycross Zoo in Leicestershire they are feeding ice lollies to the animals as well as hosing down the elephants.

Zookeepers say it is important to pay particular attention to animals during heat waves to protect them from dehydration - even those from tropical climes.

Jo Black reports.
