Fake ash cloud created for new plane equipment tests

13 November 2013 Last updated at 17:54 GMT

Easyjet has created a fake ash cloud and flown through it in order to test a new piece of on-board equipment

It is meant to help passenger aircraft in the event of a volcanic eruption.

This is a response to the eruption in 2010 of a volcano in Iceland that caused severe disruption to UK and European passenger flights.

Richard Westcott reports.
