Weather satellite influence growing
The accuracy of weather forecasts has been steadily improving, and a lot of that success is down to meteorological satellites.
Europe's latest dedicated weather platform to go into orbit is Metop-B, which will ensure there is continuity of observations following on from Metop-A, which was launched in 2006.
Dr Florence Rabier, from Meteo France, told the BBC's Jonathan Amos about the importance of space sensors to weather forecasters.
